The 5Th Elder Scrolls is finally here!
After the release of bestselling game Oblivion (Elder Scrolls IV) the people at Bethesda studios started working on a new secret project. Then on December the 11th 2010 at the Spike Video Awards Skyrim was announced.
Skyrim was released on November 11 2011. Skyrim takes place in the land of Skyrim. In the first scene you are heading off to an execution when a dragon saves your life! Then you team up with fellow criminal Balof and escape. After this you can choose what to do. You can either follow the main quest line or take part in other quests such as the Mage quest line or the dark brotherhood quest line. And if you feel like it you can do no quests at all!
In the game you play as a dragon-born (a descendant of the dragons) that has the unique ability to absorb dragon souls and learn the dragon language. You need dragon souls to perform “shouts” (dragon words that do certain things such as push opponents back or fast sprint.) As you go through the quest line you develop your character and learn more about the dragons and why they are coming back.
Your play style is entirely up to you. You can be a Mage and use all sorts of Destruction, Restoration, Conjuration, Alteration and Illusion magic to defeat your foes. You can also use one handed weapons, shields, two handed weapons and bows and arrows.
As you progress through the game you will level up your weapons and abilities and ultimately level up your character. Then you can increase a certain attribute (magicka, health or stamina) and increase skills.
The game is an RPG because of the leveling system and how you have to pickup items. It is not an MMO because it is fully offline. You can be in first person mode or third person but the third person combat is a bit clunky.
The art in this game is breathtaking and the high quality graphics make it look all the more realistic but i don’t think Bethesda studios have quite nailed the character models because they look a bit unrealistic.
The sound track is also brilliant with the music adjusting to your current situation.
There is a lot more i could say about this game (though i won’t because i don’t want to make this review to long) This is my favourite game and it is really worth the money.
